First Quality® now sourcing carbon-free electricity for all manufacturing operations in Pennsylvania


Annual greenhouse gas emissions reduction equivalent to taking 60,000 cars off the road each year 


GREAT NECK, NY (September 1, 2022) In Pennsylvania, First Quality® has entered into a three-year agreement to source carbon-free electricity for all of its manufacturing facilities in the state. This will reduce First Quality’s Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions (indirect emissions from utility providers) by 267,000 metric tons annually, the equivalent of taking 60,000 cars off of the road each year.


First Quality has agreed to source electricity from a utility provider that operates carbon-free nuclear power plants. Through the use of Emission-Free Energy Certificates (EFECs) that are managed and verified by a third party, the utility provider will supply enough carbon-free electricity to the Pennsylvania grid to power 100% of First Quality’s manufacturing facilities in the state—four locations in total. 


As First Quality develops enterprise-wide sustainability commitments, reducing greenhouse gas emissions will be crucial to meet its targets as well as customers’ goals.
