About Caring With Dignity

Incontinence is one of the most common—and most misunderstood—challenges caregivers face. Too often, it becomes the tipping point for nursing home admission, not because it can’t be managed, but because caregivers don’t have the right tools, knowledge, or support.

Written by longtime nurse and clinical educator Michele Mongillo, Caring with Dignity is an empowering, compassionate, and practical guide for anyone navigating incontinence care—whether for an aging parent, a child with special needs, a partner, or even themselves.

Drawing on more than thirty years of clinical experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, and home care, Michele breaks down the physical, emotional, and practical aspects of incontinence care into easy-to-understand steps. With a focus on preserving comfort, health, and dignity, this book covers:

  • Expert guidance on urinary and bowel incontinence at every life stage
  • How to choose and use products effectively for different needs
  • Daily living strategies for skin health, hydration, mobility, and bathroom scheduling
  • Emotional tools for navigating stigma, difficult conversations, and caregiver burnout
  • Tips for traveling, working, or socializing while managing incontinence care at home

Grounded in real-life stories and backed by clinical expertise, Caring with Dignity is for the millions of family and professional caregivers who deserve to feel more confident, less alone, and better equipped to provide dignified care.

Because dignity is not just about what we do—it’s how we do it.

“I just finished reading Caring with Dignity: A Caregiver's Guide to Incontinence. I found the content to be very approachable for both healthcare professionals and patients/caregivers alike. The diverse stories in the book deeply humanized what it's like to live with and care for incontinence while educating, empowering and destigmatizing. Anyone that cares for someone living with incontinence must read this book!”
