For team members at First Quality, it’s not uncommon to clock in side by side with family members. Many of those who work at the company’s diaper manufacturing facility in Macon, Georgia, or other locations across North America, do their jobs next to loved ones every day.
However, for Algernon Moore, who helps move products and supplies from one place to another at the Macon site, there’s one coworker who will always stand out the most: his mother, Theresa. She’s worked at Macon for more than 20 years and was the one who originally got him interested in joining First Quality.
“She gave me the rundown on it, and she told me she thought it would be a job that would help me mature,” Algernon recalled.
After 10 years at the Macon plant, Algernon said his mom’s prediction has come true: “This job has made me a better and stronger person. I make better decisions. And she’s very proud of me.”
Today, Algernon leads by example, helping to train several other drivers and serving as a role model who’s well-known for his positivity.

Strong role models for work and life
Algernon may have arrived at his current job thanks to his mother, but he also owes a lot to his father, another major influence.
“Pretty much my whole life, I’ve followed my dad’s footsteps,” Algernon said.
Since childhood, that’s included two big pastimes: fishing and fixing up cars. When not out on the boat trying to reel in a catch, he and his dad have worked together on cars since Algernon was four or five years old.
Over the years, his close relationship with both his parents “has played a big role in who I’ve become.” That type of relationship is also reflected in his interactions at work, where he said everyone’s door is always open, and you can ask questions to help you learn and grow.
Although a lot of companies say they’re like a family, to Algernon, the atmosphere at Macon combined with the fact that he works nearby his own mother gives a whole new meaning to that idea.
